⛏️ Marathon Ignites Middle East's Bitcoin Boom with First Mega Liquid-Cooled Mining Operation

Well, look who's hopping on the Bitcoin mining train in the Middle East - Marathon Digital, one of those U.S.-based miners, is buddying up with Zero Two, an Abu Dhabi sweetheart, to bring the Middle East its first-ever large-scale Bitcoin mining operation that's liquid cooled. And guess what? This comes just as Uncle Sam starts shaking down Bitcoin miners for a whopping 30% of their energy costs. You can almost hear Marathon saying, "Not today, IRS, we're off to the desert."

The new gig, which they're calling the ADGM (original, right?), will build two mining sites with a total of 250 MW of mining power. And they're not just doing it for fun; they're actually helping Abu Dhabi's power grid by using their surplus energy. Marathon's only getting a 20% slice of the ADGM pie, with Zero Two taking the lion's share at 80%, but let's be real, 20% of a $406 million cake still tastes pretty sweet.

The best part? They're making the sweltering desert work for them. Forget air cooling, they're taking a dip in the liquid cooling pool, and it's working wonders for their mining machines. As Marathon's CEO, Fred Thiel put it; this is a game-changer. Or in my words, they're about to make it rain Bitcoin in the Middle East.

🧡 Human Rights Foundation Splashes $455K to Supercharge Bitcoin Development

It looks like the Human Rights Foundation (HRF) has decided to chuck some corn at Bitcoin development. They've forked over $455k to many projects, aiming to put a turbo on Bitcoin tech and help it go global, especially in Africa and Asia. Since 2020, these guys have been more generous than a Bitcoin whale in a bull market, giving away $2.7 million to over 80 whizz kids and projects worldwide, enhancing the powers of scaling, privacy, and decentralisation and spreading the Bitcoin gospel far and wide.

Take Meron Estefanos, for example. She got $50k to set up a Bitcoin Innovation Hub in Uganda. It’s gonna help local youngsters get savvy about Bitcoin and, hopefully, make them Bitcoin sovereigns. There’s also Calvin Kim, who got $100k to get Utreexo ready for the big leagues. He’s working on a peer-to-peer protocol to sync Bitcoin nodes faster than a teenager can text. Some of these bright sparks got funds to build some pretty wild stuff: open-source protocols, privacy for Bitcoin wallets, lightning nodes for Raspberry Pi, and more. The HRF even helped Bitcoin education and community-building initiatives from Thailand to Africa.

The next round of Bitcoin handouts is coming in August 2023, so keep your eyes peeled, folks.
