Block's TBD Partners To Enable Global Payments in 16 African Countries Using Bitcoin
Block's TBD has partnered with Yellow Card to offer a Bitcoin-based platform enabling people to make payments and exchanges in 16 African countries. The partnership aims to reduce the cost and improve the accessibility of cross-border payments whilst offering compliant payments and fiat off-ramps. Using the platform, senders can initiate remittances in USD, whilst recipients can receive local fiat currency in bank accounts or mobile wallets such as M-PESA and MTN. TBD's next goal is to establish decentralised identity, trust and transaction protocols enabling decentralised and trusted exchanges.
Cross-border payments in Africa can often be slow, with up to 10% fees. The partnership with Yellow Card aims to provide affordable and accessible solutions to these issues. The platform will enable global payments and fiat off-ramps for end consumers to send USD or Bitcoin and receive payments in local fiat currencies. TBD provides APIs and developer services that make it easy for app developers to embed functionality, enabling these transactions in real-time for their end consumers. The partnership is part of Block's vision of developing global on- and off-ramps to enable the mainstream adoption of Bitcoin in commercial and financial applications at scale.
In short, Block's TBD and Yellow Card are joining forces to offer a platform that will enable cross-border payments and liquidity exchanges in 16 African countries. This partnership will provide affordable and accessible solutions to the high fees and long wait times currently associated with cross-border payments in Africa. The platform will enable global payments and fiat off-ramps for end consumers to send USD or Bitcoin and receive payments in local fiat currencies and is part of Block's vision of developing global on- and off-ramps to enable mainstream adoption of Bitcoin. The partnership is an exciting step forward in freedom and economic empowerment.
